Rescue Tundra Vehicles

Challenged to create two cohesive futuristic rescue vehicles for rescuing miners in a storm. 
I looked towards Retro futurism and solar punk ideas to create my insectoid inspired vehicles. 
This project spanned alongside another project for a university module in my second year.

Creating a consistent brand for this universe. A company based around sustainability and innovation based upon the environment. This group fight to retain mother natures beauty whilst also surviving this harsh new world humans have created for themselves.

I would eventually follow this dragon fly route - as dragon flies are some of natures best fliers. This company designs based off animals, so it makes sense to learn from nature itself.

RAF Cosford ‘life drawing’ - this trip allowed me to get up close and personal with hundreds of unique aircrafts from all over the world. I was able to observe and apply this new knowledge to my sketches.

This helicopter specifically boosted my interest in hovering aircraft’s as opposed to planes for their ability to manoeuvre and adapt to environments with better ease.

Looking at Dragon flies I tried to capture the characteristic of theur large round eyes in the cockpits. I felt this was an important step towards the helicopters insectoid appearance.

This Vehicle was designed around Millipedes. A burrowing animal - since this vehicle would need to enter mines to reach trapped miners it needed to be slim enough to fit into smaller pathways, but big enough to collect 6 or more people.

Radio and radar designs. These designs are based around the MANTIS motif I was at the time working to establish.

With their appearance mimiking a mantis head I was able to keep the insectoid theme consistent.

You may notice the big jump - this is because after the initial 2D phase I switched out to 3D Zbrush work. This meant to could retain consistency and work without the constant worry of perspective.

What would I do different - I would include diagrams of people inside these vehicles to better understand how people sit in their and the scale of these vehicles.
